Who we are

BOBAL WINE CELLARS is a leading Spanish company in the offering and commercialization of bulk musts and wines produced by its 17 partner cooperatives.

BWC is located in Requena, within the Valencian Community, the third-largest wine-growing region in Spain.

BWC was founded on August 10, 2017, in response to the need to concentrate and professionalize the commercialization of bulk wine in the Valencian Community.

Our vineyard covers over 22,000 hectares, and our production varies from year to year, ranging from 70 to 100 million liters of wine and must, representing 2% of Spain’s total production.

Our Vineyard

The winemaking tradition in this region spans over 2,700 years of history. Archaeological findings support the production and continuous commercialization of wine from the Iberian era to the present day.

This area consists of a nearly circular plateau of over 1,800 square kilometers, located 70 kilometers away from the Mediterranean Sea, with altitudes ranging from 600 to 900 meters.

Winters are cold and long, with frequent frost, and temperatures sometimes drop to -15°C. Springs tend to be late and unpredictable, with occasional frosts in April and May. Summers are short but intensely hot, with temperatures reaching 40°C during the midday hours. Autumn is usually brief and marked by morning frosts.

La Bobal

Bobal is a red grape variety native to the Utiel-Requena region.

It is hardy and highly resistant to adverse weather conditions and pests while being very productive.

It can withstand drought and powdery mildew but is susceptible to downy mildew.

It handles winter frost well but has developed late budding as a defense against unexpected and damaging spring frosts.

Bobal red wines are characterized by their tannic structure and aromas of spices and red fruits, especially cherry. They typically have low alcohol content and high acidity.
